The 2004 model: Developed during BMW's ownership of Land Rover, the L322 switched to unibody construction with fully independent air suspension — both firsts for the nameplate — and dramatically improved interior quality and technology. It launched in the US with a BMW-sourced 4.4-liter V8, moved to Jaguar-derived engines for 2006 (a 4.4-liter V8 and a 400-hp supercharged 4.2-liter), and gained 375-hp 5.0-liter and 510-hp supercharged 5.0-liter V8s for 2010. A 2007 update added Land Rover's Terrain Response off-road drive-mode system.
